The CIA offered Ivan von Birchan two million U.S dollars cash in early 1986 to murder Sweden’s prime minister Olof Palme. With Ivan’s background in the military and as a contractor in Libya and South Rhodesia, they thought that Ivan was the perfect man for the job.
But he said ”thanks, but no thanks” and went to the Swedish secret police SÄPO (Säkerhetspolisen) and told that Palme’s life was in danger. They didn’t listen nor wanted to do anything about it, so Ivan later went to people in Palme’s cabinet to warn them. Inger Båvner was one of them. Båvner has later also confirmed that Ivan had warned her prior to the murder of the prime minister.
