My Dogs Won't Drink the Rainwater

Most of this week it has been raining where I live. [Arkansas] Until today it was mostly light rain but this morning there was close lightening and thunder and water coming down by inches an hour. This water is off the Gulf of Mexico, pushed inland by the current storm in the gulf.

In the afternoon, the clouds broke up, the sun finally coming out, so I took my dogs for a walk, first chance in days. But with the sun came truly muggy heat. In a short time the dogs were looking for water. They know all the places in the road ditches where we walk which are a bit deeper and hold puddles of water after a rain. They kept going to these spots as we progressed but they wouldn't drink this fresh rain water after a lick or a smell. Not even where it was still running freely. Finally we hit a spot, a little deeper than the others, where the old dog did half-heartedly drink some. But he soon ended up biting at the water before climbing out of the ditch - I've never seen him do that before.

On arriving home the dogs usually dive into an old 4 or 5 gallon mop bucket I have set to catch rain water off the roof. But they drank very little from it today even though they were obviously thirsty.

Finally, after being in the house for some time, they drank from the well water bucket I keep in the house for them. Now I'll have to watch how they approach the well water the next few days as these rains work their way through the earth into my well. If my well is contaminated by rain laden with those chemicals dumped into the gulf, or with oil, I'm in trouble. Hell, half the country is.

I trust my dogs' senses of smell and taste way over what we're told by government, academia and media. Today there was something about this fresh rain water that they wanted no part of.

The Sassoon family is a family of international renown, which originated in the Jewish community of Baghdad, said to have originally been descended from Ibn Shoshans, of Spain.

Sassoon ben Salih (1750 - 1830) was a banker to the vali (provincial governor) of Baghdad. His son David (1792 - 1864) fled from a new and unfriendly vali, going first to the Gulf port of Bushehr in 1828 and then to Bombay, India, in 1832, with his large family. In Bombay, he built the international business called David S. Sassoon, with the policy of staffing it with people brought from Baghdad. They filled the functions of the various branches of his business in India, Burma, Malay, and east Asia. In each branch, he maintained a rabbi. His wealth and munificence were proverbial, and his business extended to China - where Sassoon House (now the north wing of the Peace Hotel) on the Bund in Shanghai became a noted landmark - and then to England.

His eight sons also branched out into many directions. The Sassoon family was very heavily involved in the opium trade in China and India. Elias David (1820 - 1880), his son by his first wife, had been the first of the sons to go to China, in 1844. He later returned to Bombay, before leaving the firm to establish E. D. Sassoon in 1867, with offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Another son, Albert Abdullah David Sassoon (1818 - 1896) took on the running of the firm on his father's death, and notably constructed the Sassoon Docks, the first wet dock built in western India. With two of his brothers he later became prominent in England and the family great friends of the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII.

Of those who settled in England, Sir Edward Albert Sassoon (1856 - 1912), the son of Albert, married Aline Caroline de Rothschild, and was a Conservative member of Parliament from 1899 until his death. The seat was then inherited by his son Sir Philip Sassoon (1888 - 1939) from 1912 until his death. Sir Philip served in World War I as military secretary to Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig and, during the 1920s and 1930s, as Britain's undersecretary of state for air. The twentieth-century English poet, memoirist, and anti-war figure Siegfried Sassoon (1886 - 1967) was David's great-grandson. Another descendant of Sassoon David Sassoon is the British banker and government minister Sir James Sassoon.

The branch that carried on the ancestral tradition has been represented by Rabbi Solomon David Sassoon (1915 - 1985), who moved from Letchworth to London and then to Jerusalem in 1970. He was the son of the David Sassoon who collected Jewish books and manuscripts and who catalogued them in Ohel David, in two volumes. This David was the son of Flora Abraham, who had moved from India to England in 1901 and established a famous salon in her London home. Solomon Sassoon had one son, Isaac S.D. Sassoon, who is also a rabbi.

It may be part of an exercise, but have no doubt: The needles in this simulated pandemic flu scenario are real. And so are the deltoids of thousands of sailors to be immunized in coming days as part of a test of the Navy's capacity to "surge" huge quantities of vaccines to its work force.

Every military exercise gets a name, typically by shortening key words and condensing the spaces between them. The first phase of PANFLUEX - short for pandemic flu exercise - begins today, when nurses and corpsmen from Portsmouth Naval Medical Center will fan out to local military medical clinics. Their goal is to vaccinate about 6,000 "mission essential personnel" within 48 hours.

"Primarily, the first part of the exercise is getting health care workers vaccinated," said Rebecca Perron, a spokeswoman for the medical center. "If it were the real thing, we would get 60,000 doses and have 48 hours to administer them."

Because this is the first time medical center personnel are attempting such a large-scale, real-world exercise, she said, they're doing the immunizations in batches over the coming weeks.

Ultimately, some 60,000 active duty personnel working at shore commands will receive flu vaccines as part of PANFLUEX. That's a little less than half the doses the medical center plans on administering this year. The rest will go to military family members.

Those flu shots will be available later this month, Perron said. Family members will not be immunized as part of the exercise.

In the exercise's three final phases, medical personnel won't wait for patients to come to them. Corpsmen and nurses will head to local bases and commands and set up miniature clinics. They will attempt to inoculate 20,000 people in a 24-hour period.

Sailors assigned to local ships will get their flu shots from their ships' medical departments and are not part of the exercise, Perron said.

The idea for a new Canadian crony-media network was reportedly hatched in a secret lunch between Rupert Murdoch and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Harper was George W. Bush's closest ally on climate change and many other issues, and is widely understood to be importing a radical form of right-wing politics to Canada from the US. The new network, dubbed "Fox News North" would transform Canada's media landscape, bringing an unscrupulously biased mouthpiece for a political leader. Avaaz's campaign opposes a special government favour that would force taxpayers to foot the bill for this new network through their cable TV fees. This is an example of how crony-media works -- a billionaire gets government-mandated funding for their media network while pushing propaganda that backs that government's leader.

Many of these media barons are also ruthless in how they achieve their political objectives: pushing opinions that poison people's hearts and polarize our world, threatening democracy and peace. Dr. David Ray Griffin is in the hospital

Dr. David Ray Griffin is in the hospital

He went into the hospital two months ago for back surgery, and the doctors found a heart condition. He had a heart attack and a stroke and probably an infection. He may never be able to write another book or make another speech. I do not have all the facts, but if he is able someday to at least work on his computer, that would be very positive.

I am praying for Dr. Griffin and his family. He has left a legacy with his books that will survive for hundreds of years. He even mentioned me in one of his books. But right now I am praying that he will recover. I don't really know how bad it is. My friend from the Scholars for 9/11 Truth called him and his wife related this information to us.

Dr. Griffin is a divine man and my admiration for him knows no bounds.
