Konstigt nog är det ingen förändring alls, som i "nyhet".
Detta sätt att närma sig kunskap är "från början" ett sätt att studera Bibeln och menar sig till och med ha sina rötter från en antik gud.

Lite bakgrund... USA har hemligstämplat alla “near-Earth objects.” under nationell säkerhet... Och det är bara en av alla skumma saker som sker...

The Royal Academy to discuss “extra-terrestrial life and the UN agenda


The UN’s Mazlan Othman says she’ll be attending the conference at The Royal Society of London for the Improvement of Natural Knowledge (aka “The Royal Society“) next week. She has said that she’ll be talking about how the world deals with “near-Earth objects.”

Mazlan Othman, is the Malaysian astrophysicist who heads the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA). She has also denied rumors that she’ll be appointed the UN’s Earth Ambassador to extraterrestrials.

Discussing “near-Earth objects” sounds like an important issue. After all, an asteroid was recently detected that will pass “dangerously close” to the Earth in mid-October.

But one look at The Royal Society’s website reveals that the topic of the conference isn’t “near-Earth objects.” Rather, the title of the conference is: “Towards a scientific and societal agenda on extra-terrestrial life.”

More interesting: Othman is going to join other panelists at The Royal Society to discuss first (official) contact, and what role the UN should play, among other related issues.

Over the weekend she apparently made a comment to someone in the British Press, and that person mistakenly reported that Mazlan Othman was about to be appointed the UN’s Earth Ambassador. That story was picked up by other news outlets, and blogged (including by me).

The Guardian reports on what happened after the mistaken report about the UN’s appointing an Earth Ambassador, as well as her dismissal of the news and what she claims is the topic of discussion at The Royal Society:

Malaysian astrophysicist Mazlan Othman was being lined up for the role, the story said. As head of the UN’s Office for Outer Space Affairs (Unoosa) Othman would be the “nearest thing we have to a take me to you leader [person]“, Prof Richard Crowther, from the UK Space Agency, told the Sunday Times.

According to the paper, Othman is due to tell a Royal Society conference that as the detection of extraterrestrial life is more likely than ever, the UN needs to be ready to co-ordinate humanity’s response.

Reading all this our Martian visitor might have been encouraged to try to get in touch. They would have had a frustrating time.

The Royal Society knew nothing about it. The United Nations referred all queries to the switchboard of Unoosa in Vienna. Its switchboard number wasn’t much help. “The person at extension 4951 is unavailable, please leave your message after the tone,” it said. Those messages might make for some interesting listening today.

Finally an email from Othman herself would have prompted our Martian to trudge back to his spaceship. “It sounds really cool but I have to deny it,” she said of the story. She will be attending a conference next week, but she’ll be talking about how the world deals with “near-Earth objects”.

The National Post writes — in a very snarky, and entertaining article — that it’s just as well the “Earth Ambassador”story is wrong:

The UNOOSA is a sleepy little department of two dozen staffers, shunted off in a corner of Geneva, which spends most of its days making sure orbiting satellites don’t collide and countries don’t station weapons in space.

So when Othman insists she didn’t tell a Times reporter she was about to be appointed by UN headquarters in New York as our planet’s point of “first contact,” should any extraterrestrials hover by for a look-see — a sort of Wal-Mart greeter for visitors from other worlds–perhaps we should believe her side of the story.

But you have to admit, even if the story was bogus, it was easy to believe. After all, any organization that could appoint Libya to head its human rights commission and put Iran in charge of women’s equality is capable of naming anyone to anything.

That bit in The Guardian really grabbed my eye, where they write she “will be attending a conference next week, but she’ll be talking about how the world deals with ‘near-Earth objects.’”

What’s really going to be talked about (and maybe this is what somehow confused the reporter over the weekend) is this, from The Royal Society’s own conference page:

Should extra-terrestrial life exist, upcoming efforts will provide living generations with a realistic chance of its detection. Even more than the scientific agenda, a corresponding complementary societal agenda needs to be debated. With a mix of invited talks and panel debates, we particularly look into the detection of life, the communication with potential extra-terrestrial civilizations, the implications for the future of humanity, and the political processes that are required.

Four panel debates at the conference are to include:

•Calling ET, or not even answering the phone?
•Societal questions raised by the detection of extra-terrestrial life
•What could studies of extra-terrestrial life tell us about the future of humanity?
•Extra-terrestrial life and arising political issues for the UN agenda
Could it be that Mazlan Othman is going to be appointed an Earth Ambassador, of sorts; and the UN somehow didn’t want the news getting out just yet? Or perhaps what’s really being organized isn’t really a single “Earth Ambassador;” but rather, a collection of ambassadors — like a bureaucracy. After all, that’s how these collectivists prefer to operate.

Perhaps the whole Earth Ambassador thing was supposed to remain a secret, and she was told to deny the whole affair?

Whatever the case, this is clearly not a “near-Earth objects” conference. It’ll be interesting to see what becomes of this event.
