Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are scheduled to meet with some of China’s
richest men and women today in Beijing to discuss philanthropy in the
world’s fastest growing major economy.

Wealthy Chinese individuals set to attend the event include Hangzhou Wahaha
Group Co. Chairman Zong Qinghou, Tencent Holdings Ltd. Chairman Ma Huateng
and Soho China Ltd. Chief Executive Zhang Xin, according to state
broadcaster China Central Television. China has the second most billionaires
in the world after the U.S., according to Forbes magazine.

Gates and Buffett, the world’s second- and third-richest men, earlier this
month said in a letter published by the official Xinhua News Agency that
they wanted to learn about philanthropy in China and share their own
experiences. They denied any intention to pressure attendees of the Beijing
event to donate after the Economic Observer newspaper said some had declined
invitations on concern they’d be asked to give.

The American billionaires are “setting the seeds in very fertile ground to
think about how to do charity,” said Rupert Hoogewerf, founder and compiler
of the Hurun Report, which lists China’s richest individuals. “The Chinese
entrepreneur today is in wealth creation mode and not thinking too hard
about spending his wealth.”

Calls to the office of Jing Zhang, a Beijing-based press official for the
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is helping organize the event,
weren’t answered.

Chinese Wealth

The Shanghai-based Hurun Report said in April that the number of
millionaires in China had climbed 6 percent from a year earlier to 875,000.
The millionaires, with minimum assets of 10 million yuan ($1.5 million),
made their money primarily from the service, property and manufacturing
industries, the report said.

In the U.S., Microsoft Corp. co-founder Gates and Buffett, chairman of
Berkshire Hathaway Inc., are working to persuade fellow billionaires to give
at least half their wealth to charity. They’ve signed up more than 30
philanthropists, including Larry Ellison and Paul Allen, to their Giving
Pledge initiative.

“We live in a time that allows our efforts to get rewarded in an
unbelievable manner,” Buffett said today at an event organized by Chinese
automaker BYD Co. in Beijing. “If at the end of it I can help other people,
that is what I want to do.”

För då ser USA ekonomi plötsligt lite bättre ut..

Bästa vakna ekonomer... tror ni dessa herrar har något emot att man först etablerat Kina med dess blod-svett-tårarfabriker för att sedan i nästa moment slå undan benen för sina billighetsprodukter i sitt fabriksland.
