Big Brother will be watching you for sure by 2008 -- the year a proposed requirement that Event Data Recorders (EDRs) become mandatory standard equipment in all new cars and trucks will become law unless public outrage puts the kibosh on it somehow.

EDRs are "black boxes" -- just like airplanes have. They can record a wide variety of things -- including how fast you drive and whether you "buckle-up for safety." The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants EDRs to be installed in every new vehicle beginning with model year 2008 -- on the theory that the information will help crash investigators more accurately determine the hows and whys of accidents.

But EDRs could -- and likely will be -- used for other purposes as well............

You people that voted for the fascist in our government got what you wanted. We have been fighting this crap for years but every time someone puts up a good fight the right wing Bush Zombies crawl out of their rat holes and say "If you have nothing to hide then you shouldn't worry about it." All I have to say to them is purchase your own walled community somewhere in China. I am sure they will take your freedoms while keeping you safe from the boogie men invading from the north.

They won't hate us for our freedom for too much longer. Think how much safer we'll be when we have absolutlely no freedom at all. We won't have to worry about terrorists. We will have to worry about our government. A real President, who was a lover of freedom, who believed in freedom of choice would stand up against such measures. What am I saying? Politicians for freedom? Corporations own them all. So wave goodbye to your freedom as it drives by in the guise of a shiny new car!

Yes this part of the creeping spy and control methods of the present administration. Unfortunately many of us just do not understand what this is doing to the freedoms we have enjoyed for more than 200 years.

t's early in the morning but I'll take a small jump into the fray. Black boxes are (will be) just another erosion of our "freedom". The patriot act, telephone evesdropping, what's next?

"I don't have anything to hide" - the last, terminal words of a person who is totally under control of a dictatorship and has to run and hide less he/she inadvertently break one of the ever more invasive and ambiguous laws.
