On sunday may 27, 2007, the concession of a very popular TV station ( RCTV ) that allowed it to broadcast its signal was not renewed by the government. Several other TV stations concessions also ended that day but only RCTVs was not renewed.

Government officials and the President have made it clear that it was not renewed because of RCTVs hard political opposition to the government and its alleged participation in 2002s coup, which has not been debated in a courtroom.

University students and civilians are manifesting their discontent on the streets.
They consider this government decision an infringement of their right to free speech.
