Där förekom inga protester utanför Riksdagshuset den 20 Nov,dagen då landsförädarna i Riksdagen ratificerade Lissabonfördraget. Vaken.se lyste med sin frånvaro trots att sidan är full med Stockholmare. Jag tycker bara det är dåligt att folk som kallar sig Vakna ej protesterade utanför Riksdagen den 20 Nov. Jag bor själv i Skåne och kunde ej få ledigt från jobbet den dagen, annars skulle jag varit där.

story can be told from a Greek and not foreign media.

Some history first. Greece gains independence from the Ottoman Empire
in 1830. The countries that guaranteed our freedom was England ,
France and Russia and split Greece into 3 zones of influence until
they brought our good German King that we kicked in the 1970s.


Greece has long historic and cultural ties with Russia. We are both
eastern European civilizations. Religion. We are both orthodox
countries. Also the cyrilic alphabet is close to the Greek alphabet.
In the byzantine years there were several marriages of emperors here
and tsar people from Russia. During the occupation of Greece from the
Turks the Russian empire had signed a pact with the Turks in the 1700s
that they would allow the Christian population to do trade and
commerce under the Russian flag which helped the Greeks to gather some
money and later help finance a revolution in 1821. the Bolshevik
revolution had also a large impact on Greece. The communist party was
formed opposing the king. In both world wars Russia and Greece were on
the allied side. In the second world war Greece was freed by the
communists and the communists attempted to get in power. The British
and Americans intervened though in the civil war (1945-1949) and
after killing hundreds of thousands of Greeks they managed to restore
the King. I'm not trying to do communist propaganda here. those were
actually the reasons that the president of Greece recalled in 1975
when he legitimized the communist party. The truth is tho that the
ruling party then "New Democracy" allowed the communists so they could
decrease the power of the socialists.


In the late 1970s there were elections. The socialists promoted not to
enter the EU and leave NATO and the ruling party was promoting
entering the EU. The socialists won though and although they promoted
leaving NATO and not joining the EU we stayed in NATO and joined the
EU. It is a joke actually in all elections. the socialists claim that
they entered the EU. The others say that they were promising not to
enter and stole their idea ...


Nowadays Greece and other European nations are opposing EU plans like
the permanent president of the EU, the European constitution that
didn't pass or the Lisbon treaty that is the European constitution
renamed to Lisbon Treaty essentially. The EU has also other facts that
are opposing the freedom of the constituent countries like the ECJ
that should not even be existing. Why should the EU have jurisdiction
over Greece if it's just a trade bloc or whatever it is ... All of
these things are seen as trying to establish the EU as a federation or
a confederation. Greeks and other nations have fought for their
freedom in the past centuries and see this with hostility as trying to
reestablish foreign rule again.


Also democracy in the EU ... Ireland voted NO by 5% for the Lisbon
Treaty and now promised to rerun a referendum. I wonder if the
referendum had passed by 0.1%, would they rerun it to see if they
still agree? I guess if they say NO again they'll just rerun the
referendum 40-50 times till they get YES...


Now about the Kid that died 8 days ago. Cops are pigs here. Although
they are not allowed to use their service gun to shoot people unless
they are in defense all of them have a second personal gun so they
shoot and then they don t have to report to their service. Also the
ones that give tickets. Known fact, guess they need to complete number
of tickets they should collect daily so if they don't have enough they
just stop you and fine you. and if you don't like it they arrest you
and fine you more. Everybody hates them here and has no respect for
them. The protests would have stopped earlier I guess but on Tuesday
Greek TV showed some arrested protesters handcuffed and beaten by
Greek Policemen


About the people that went downtown those days, They were mostly the
leftists that don;t like the government. Truth is that among the
European countries we are from the 2 that haven't taken any anti-
crisis measures. Most of Greece's income is tourism related which is
expected to shrink because of the economic crisis. Still the
government is predicting that Greece's GDP will grow by 2-3% in 2009.
All other parties have called it fake and although nobody agrees they
refuse to take any measures. The EU has also urged our government to
take measures.


Now the protests are being continued but have gone largely down mainly
due to the fact that the left parties asked their supporters to stop
and because of the bad weather yesterday and today.
