Once hailed as a beacon of rebirth in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, the Freedom Tower's patriotic name has been swapped out for the more marketable One World Trade Center, officials at the Port Authority conceded today.

Henry Silverman was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in June 2002 by Governor Pataki. He was elected Vice-Chairman of the agency in May 2007. Mr. Silverman is Senior Advisor to affiliates of Apollo Global Management, a leading private equity and capital markets investor. From 1990 to 2007, Mr. Silverman served as Chairman and CEO of Cendant Corporation and its predecessor and successor. Cendant was a “Fortune 100” company and the largest global provider of consumer business services within the travel and residential real estate sectors prior to its separation into several new companies in 2006. He currently serves as an Executive Committee member of the Business Roundtable. He is also a trustee of New York University School of Medicine and Medical Center, a Director of the NYU Child Study Center,a member of JP Morgan's National Advisory Board, and non-executive Chairman to Realogy Corporation. Mr. Silverman graduated from Williams College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and served as a legal officer in the US Navy Reserve. Mr. Silverman was awarded the American Heritage Award from the Anti-Defamation League for lifetime achievement in fighting discrimination and was honored for his efforts to promote diversity in the workplace by the Jackie Robinson Foundation and the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
