Ritualen har religiösa drag men de närvarande citerar inte Bibeln, utan refererar till grundarna av kungadömet Italien som kom till 186o. Italiens grundare som frihetskämpen Giuseppe Garibaldi ses som ett ideal, liksom hans samtida kollega Giuseppe Mazzini.
