The World Economic Forum is the globalists’ own central organization. Its founder and chairman Klaus Schwab has proposed using the overreaction to the coronavirus pandemic to launch a worldwide reset he calls ’The Great Reset.’ He has published a book with the same title. It’s about expanding government power and suppressing people’s freedom around the world.
Schwab envisions an authoritarian system where the hyper-rich oligarchs and their global corporations and banks act as partners to a political power elite they control. The global companies shall exercise their government-granted monopoly powers to maximize value for what they call ’stakeholders’ instead of shareholders. Stakeholders include politicians, international organizations, the companies themselves, and ’civil society.’
Of course, government bureaucrats and politicians, along with the most powerful special interests, will decide who are and are not stakeholders, what is in the stakeholders’ interest, and what actions companies must take to maximize stakeholder value. The wishes of the citizens are subordinate.
The Great Reset will dramatically expand the surveillance society through real-time tracking. It will also mandate equipping people with digital certificates to travel and enter venues, with technology implanted in their bodies for complete monitoring.
Schwab’s proposal for surveillance includes his idea to use scanning of people’s brains and nanotechnology to predict, and if necessary, prevent individuals’ future actions. This means that anyone whose brain is ’scanned’ can arbitrarily have their rights violated, as a government bureaucrat (think Dan Eliasson) decides whether the individual can be expected to commit a crime. The tracking and surveillance system could be used to silence those expressing ’dangerous’ political opinions that disrupt the globalists’ agenda. The Great Reset violates our God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The Great Reset involves a huge expansion of the welfare state through a universal basic income program while most people will be property-less. This can help ensure compliance with the authoritarian measures of The Great Reset. It will also be very expensive. The resulting increase in national debt will not be seen as a problem by those who believe in modern monetary theory. This is the latest version of the tale that deficits don’t matter as long as central banks can make money by issuing credit.
The Reset is about establishing the planned economy of the hyper-wealthy, controlled by them and their global companies and banks.
The Great Reset will ultimately fail for the same reason that all other attempts by governments to control the market have failed. As Ludwig von Mises showed, political interference in the market distorts the price system. Prices are how information about the value of goods and services relative to other goods and services is conveyed to market actors. Authoritarian intervention in the market disrupts the signals sent by prices, leading to an oversupply of some goods and services and an undersupply of others. This is what it looks like and has always looked like in planned economies.
The lockdowns show the dangers of authoritarian control over the economy and our personal lives. The lockdowns have increased unemployment, caused many small businesses to close, and led to more abuse, domestic violence, and suicides. The result is a gradual eradication of an independent middle class and a massive transfer of wealth to the multi-billionaires. Just so far during the pandemic, half a dozen hyper-wealthy oligarchs have increased their wealth by about 2,000 billion dollars.
We are told that the lockdowns are ordered because of a virus that poses no major danger to a very large portion of the public. But instead of adopting a different strategy, politicians double down on the failed policy of masks, shutdowns, and lockdowns. At the same time, major tech companies (Google, Youtube, Facebook, Amazon, Twitter, etc.), which often already function as partners to politicians, silence anyone who questions the official line about the threat of coronavirus or the effectiveness of lockdowns, masks, and vaccines. Most recently, the action where Youtube, with the blessing of the Green Party government, shut down the oppositional Swebbtv account. In Poland, the government does the opposite and fines companies for online censorship.
The catastrophic response to the pandemic is just the latest example of how those who give up freedom in exchange for the promise of safety or health will end up in unfreedom, insecurity, and ill health.
Instead of a great authoritarian reset, we need a great rebirth of people’s freedom!
